April 15, 2026The West Bengal government is rapidly advancing its ambitious Bengal Silicon Valley project, aiming for ₹30,000 crore in investments with a major thrust on Artificial Intelligence, data centres, and Global Capability Centres (GCCs). The 250-acre tech hub in New Town, Kolkata, is witnessing fast-paced construction. As per the latest updates, 41 companies have been allotted land, with 31 of them already starting construction work. The project is projected to generate at least 7,500 direct jobs in the near term.
IT Secretary Shubhanjan Das stated that physical inspections show "construction moving at a fantastic pace." Several companies have begun building their campuses, focusing heavily on AI infrastructure and data centre facilities. This development supports the broader state policy of opening government data centres for private AI model training and strengthening innovation across West Bengal.
